Title: Editor, Magic Cat, an imprint of Abrams Kids
Description: Position Summary:
Join an innovative children’s non-fiction and gift team at Magic Cat: an imprint of Abrams Children’s Books. Work closely with the Magic Cat Publishers and Abrams team to help shape a dynamic publishing list. Responsibilities will include helping to develop creative original content and formats, plus copyediting, proofreading and fact-checking, and overseeing the day-to-day coordination of the London-based imprint for the US market.

Job Details:
• Oversee complete list, Americanising up to 30 titles per year including original illustrated non-fiction and gift books, ensuring they are appropriate for a North American audience
• Develop select brands/projects in conjunction with the Publishers, who are based in London
• Represent the Magic Cat list to the wider Abrams family
• Develop, nurture, and maintain new and existing relationships with authors, artists, agents, and industry professionals
• Collaborate with Sales and Marketing on positioning and plans for titles and programs, as well as communication of plans and strategy to authors/illustrators/agents;


Requirements: Key Skills / Experience
• A passion for children’s illustrated non-fiction; ability to edit across age-groups and categories, both narrative non-fiction, preschool and non-fiction
• Should possess strong knowledge of the children’s book market and an ability to identify opportunities with an eye toward forthcoming trends
• Minimum of 5 years editorial experience in children’s book publishing. Non-fiction experience a must.
• Desire and ability to work collaboratively, respectfully, and enthusiastically in an environment where creativity, innovative thinking, and an excellent work ethic are highly valued.
• Knowledge of the manufacturing and production process for novelty a plus.
• Agent and writer contacts a plus.
• Experience in content development a plus.
• Ideal candidate is an ambitious, meticulous and adaptable self-starter.
• Position is currently remote but will eventually based in the Abrams NYC office
